◊ This program is distributed as Shareware: this means that if you like it or use it regularly you should send $5 (more or less, depending on how much you like this piece of software) to the author at the address above. Since collecting international cheques is VERY expensive, please send CASH ONLY. VERY expensive means that the banks can charge a sum varying between $15 and $30. Thus, DO NOT send cheques.
◊ NOTE: Getting some (usually very few) bucks is what you write shareware for, but getting a note, a postcard or anything else is a lot better than getting nothing. I would like to know how far this program has gone, so remember that you can do something nice even if you do not have a couple of $$$ to spare.
• GENERAL INFO
◊ DarkShutdown is a DarkSide of the Mac module. DarkSide is a free, yet wonderful and non-obtrusive screen-saver by Tom Dowdy. This screen saver will not patch the Operating System, avoiding the dreaded conflicts you may experience with other screen savers.
◊ DarkShutdown works by sending a restart or shutdown Apple Event to the Finder (or At Ease™); the net effect is the same as if you had chosen “Restart” or “Shut Down” in the Finder. The Finder will politely close all your open applications, then restart or power off your Mac if software-power off capable. The experienced user may ask: “What happens if there are open applications with unsaved work? If the Mac is unattended, there is nobody responding to the dialog boxes.” There is an option for responding to the dialogs, too. I simulate hits on the enter key, so that any document left open will be saved.
◊ DarkShutdown may be used on any Mac with DarkSide 4.1, which requires System 7 or later.
◊ If you are looking for hidden features and are able to use ResEdit, take a look at the ‘REGF’ resource into DarkShutdown…
